Online Genealogy Resources:
There is no central genealogy research facility on campus. Genealogy researchers should include a visit to the
Texas State Library's Genealogy Collection, located at 1201 Brazos (512-463-5463).
The University of Texas Libraries owns published materials relating to genealogy in the United States and other countries. Many are housed in the
Perry-Castañeda Library.
Find these materials in the Library Catalog. Here are some suggested subject search strategies:
- Genealogy
- [name of a state or country] - Genealogy
- name of a state or country] - Biography
- a specific family name, such as "Brown Family"
- [name of an ethnic group] - Genealogy
The Center for American History has extensive research collections relating to individuals and families in Texas and the 19th century South. See Frequently Asked Questions #5.
The Benson Latin American Collection has relevant published works from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Please note that Census materials containing
names are available only for the U.S. and only in the Texas State Library's Genealogy Collection, and a smaller collection in the UT Austin Center for American History.
