Using Thesauri
What is a Thesaurus?
An indexing thesaurus is intended to assist researchers to identify either the best words to use when searching an index or database*, or to suggest alternate words that would be more appropriate subject headings.
The following are a list of thesauri held in PCL Reference Department that could assist both students and staff in the selection of appropriate subject headings.
*Some databases also offer built-in thesaurus to assist searchers in choosing the best subject heading to use.
