Finding Books
The University of Texas Libraries have over 8 million items in 16 libraries at UT Austin. Following these steps will help you locate books.
- Start with the library catalog.
The Library Catalog for the UT Austin Libraries, is available from any web-connected computer. You can enter a title or author search if you have a particular book in mind. Or, if you want to find books on a general topic, enter in a few descriptive words as a title keyword or subject keyword search. - Write down the library location and call number.
Once you identify a book, it is important to write down the library where the book is located and the entire call number. - Use the stack guide to find the location of the book on the shelf.
Go to the library where the book is located and ask at the Information Desk or Reference Desk for a stack guide. This guide will tell you exactly where the book is located by its call number in that library. - Check out books at the Circulation Desk with a valid ID.
Once you find the book on the shelf, take it to the Circulation Desk. You will need a valid UT ID or Courtesy Borrower Card to check out the book.
