Many University of Texas at Austin dissertations are available online and can be found in both the Texas Digital Library and the Library Catalog. Since May 2001 all University of Texas at Austin dissertations have been submitted electronically. Also, the majority of dissertations since 1997 and selected titles before that date have been digitized. In most cases, a newly digitized dissertation will appear first in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database, which is available to current University of Texas at Austin users. Access to online dissertations depends upon user affiliation. Some are available freely on the Internet. Others require a current University of Texas at Austin EID, which is noted at point of use when required. A list of EID restricted dissertations arranged by year and author is on the ETD Server.
To find dissertations in print format, use the Library Catalog. The Dissertations are housed in the Perry-Castañeda Library, branch libraries, special collections, and in the Library Storage Facility. The exact location for each is given in the Library Catalog.
Note: Dissertations may be delayed in becoming available, due to various factors, for example, a pending application for a patent or a copyright, for one year or more after completion.
The capability to browse for electronic dissertations completed in a given year is not currently available in the Library Catalog, however browsing by year for electronic dissertations can be done on the Electronic Theses and Dissertations Server. Additional search capability, including search by advisor or title/abstract keyword for UT Austin dissertations is available in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database.
