  • Is double-sided printing possible in PCL?
Yes, when the print dialog box appears click on Preferences and under the section for double-sided click Long Edge for portait format or Short Edge for landscape format.

  • The print card reader is jammed or not functioning?
Try blowing into the empty slot on the card reader. Dust can sometimes cause the reader to malfunction. If a card is stuck, unplug the grey cable at the back of the reader, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in. This will reboot it and usually the card will pop out.

  • Is there color printing in PCL?
A color printer is located in the lobby of PCL, the cost is $0.80 per page. When sending a print job from one of our workstations choose 'Color Printer' in the drop down menu. Color printers are also available in the Student Microcomputer Facility in the Flawn Academic Center and the Architecture and Planning Library.

  • Are workstations available for people with disabilities?
The entry level of PCL has two workstations available for people with disabilities. The station located just inside of the Reference Room (PCL 2.200) is equipped with an adjustable table, a scanner, CCTV, Jaws, Kurzweil 1000 and 3000, and Zoom Text.

An additional station (#200) in the Reference Room (PCL 2.200) has a wheelchair accessible table and Microsoft Windows magnification, narration and on screen keyboard features (from the Start Menu go to Programs then Accessories then Accessibility to access these features).

Additional assistive technology is also available on Level 3 of PCL.

  • Are there scanners in PCL?
Epson GT-15000 scanners are attached to Workstations 212, 213, 220 and 221, which are located on the entry level of PCL. Also, the Multimedia Computer Facility in the Flawn Academic Center (FAC), 471-6585, has scanners available on the third floor. Scanners are also available in the Fine Arts, Architecture and Planning, Life Science, Physics Math Astronomy and Engineering libraries.

  • How do I configure my laptop for use with the PCL wireless network?
Click here for instructions for connecting to the wireless network or visit the ITS Help Desk in the lobby of the Flawn Academic Center.

  • Can I send print jobs to the PCL printers from my laptop?
Go to our computing facilities page and scroll down to 'Wireless Laptop Printing' to download the software for printing from laptops. Only B&W print jobs can be sent from laptops. Once a print job is sent it can be retrieved from any of the University Libraries' public printers and remains in the printer queue for two hours.

  • Is it possible to recover my document if I am accidently logged off from a computer?
When working on PCL workstations we recommend copying documents from your own recordable media or email to the desktop and saving often to prevent loss of work. It is advisable to have more than one copy of important documents. If you save to the desktop and are accidently logged out, your file should be there, when you log back on to the same computer. If another person is logged on to the computer where you had been working, you may be able to recover your file and have it emailed to you, by going to the
file recovery site. You will need to know the workstation number and your file name.
