The Beaumont Foundation of America (BFA), a new philanthropic endeavor created out of class action lawsuit against Toshiba Computer Corporation, will provide computer hardware to low-income children, families and communities to help bridge the digital divide. In working to bridge the digital divide, the foundation fosters collaboration between schools and community organizations to maximize the positive influence its donation can have to improve equity and increase individual and organizational capacity for community development. This project conducts in depth case studies with seventeen of the foundation's pilot projects and their partners in three cities--Chicago, Illinois, and Waco and Laredo in Texas--to understand the projects and their development of collaborative initiatives to inform BFA's future grant-making programs and procedures.
