Advancement for Whom? The Advanced Placement Program® in Texas
Melissa Y. Lazarin
Report 2001 L457 Public Affairs Library

This report examines enrollment by ethnicity in Advanced Placement courses in Texas public schools. The report describes the history of the Advanced Placement Program and the extent to which students of color have had access to the program. Campus-level enrollment data is used to analyze participation by ethnicity. Schools that have Advanced Placement courses that are representative of their student population are highlighted. Also discussed are barriers that limit enrollment in Advanced Placement courses among students of color as well as practices that serve to increase their participation.
