The city of Detroit has been noted as an area of immense urban decline since the Second World War. At the same time, areas surrounding Detroit have grown and prospered. Economic development efforts in the Detroit area have varied in scope and success over the past several decades. This report will address two development strategies pursued within the city of Detroit, workforce development strategies and center city revitalization strategies. The purpose of this report is to examine and evaluate these strategies in the context of Detroit and provide an evalluation of the evolution of economic development initiatives in the Detroit area.
