This report examines the regulatory future of the natural gas industry in Texas. A historic overview providing the factors, statutes, and structure of the natural gas industry tracts the progression towards the profitable commodity we know today. Restructuring and unbundling issues and initiatives are investigated displaying the major forces pushing for a more competitive utility industries. A comparison of the electric and natural gas industries shows how the natural gas's history and regulation is leading the electric utility down an paved unbundling path towards a new type of regulation.
