Governor John Connally started the Governor's Commission for Women (GCW) in 1967 and Governor Bush has continued the agency throughout his term. The duties of the GCW have progressed throughout the years to the following; promoting equality for Texas women in all sectors of society, educating the public on issues crucial to women and advocating for programs that provide solutions to problems faced by Texas women. The assessment will consist of an evaluation of the administration of the agency's programs. The executive summary lists the results of the assessment of the GCW. The second chapter will present the approaches taken in order to complete the assessment. The evaluation will be performed using the Sunset Advisory Commission criteria and alternate original criteria. An overview of the GCS will be the focus of chapter three. The fourth chapter will present the results of the assessment of the GCW. The recommendations for the issues presented will be presented in the last chapter.
