This report examines the influence public participation has on the development of U.S. housing policies and programs. With the devolution of housing programs from federal government to State and local government control, active public participation takes on new importance. This report explores how citizens encourage the development of innovative community development practices that benefit revitalization efforts and ensure decent affordable housing to low-income residents. It offers suggestions to help build public awareness on housing issues and promote a more positive public attitude toward affordable housing programs.
