Master's Professional Reports Abstract

Environmental Justice: Protecting Community Health

This report examines the issues involved with the inequitable distribution of industrial facilities within minority or lower income communities and the resulting respiratory health problems associated with the reduction of air quality. In addition, this report examines a specific situation involving a lower income community within San Antonio, Texas to better demonstrate the potential public health hazard associated with the inequitable distribution of industrial sites.

Specific issues contained in this report include examination of the relatively new field of environmental justice and the effects on public respiratory health associated with air quality reduction. It also includes policy solutions designed to protect minority or lower income communities from problems associated with the concentration of industrial facilities and the resulting reduction of air quality from toxic release.
