This report examines the recent shift of political party power in the State of Texas. This report presents a historic overview of Texas partisan politics and chronicles the factors that led Texas from a once solidly Democratic state, to a state that has been trending Republican in recent years. The various political party factions visible in Texas politics are discussed and the effects of political party-switching by politicians are addressed. This report also analyzes various methods used in measuring political party strength and how they apply to the Republican rise in Texas politics.
