Master's Professional Reports Abstract

Jumping Out: Helping Juveniles Out of Gangs

The primary policy issue concerning youth gangs is that they pose a danger to the public -- more now than ever due to accessibility of sophisticated weapons and heavy drug use. This report examines why some young gangsters decide to end their gang affiliation or cease their criminal activity in hopes that the processes that lead to that decision can be expedited for other youths. It also examines how they do it and the barriers and repercussions they face. Finally, it offers some policy recommendations and issues for future research.
