Master's Professional Reports Abstract

Medicaid managed care: implications for minority health in Texas
Martin, Regina
REPORT 1997 M365 Public Affairs Library.

The findings of various national and state surveys and studies on the health status of minorities reveal that many minorities have poorer health than their White counterparts. Major differences in health status according to a number of health indicators have been determined. In general, minority groups experience higher risk for certain acute medical conditions and chronic disorders than the overall population. This report looks at Medicaid Managed Care and its implications for minority health in Texas.

The report provides an overview of minority health and Medicaid Managed Care, nationally and in Texas. A summary of survey findings regarding Medicaid Managed Care illuminates issues and concerns of respondents regarding Medicaid Managed Care, among them, client and patient advocacy to achieve positive health outcomes and reduce health status disparities in Texas' minority populations.
