Master's Professional Reports Abstract

Revising Land Use Policy for Austin's New Urbanism

Land use policy has directed the development of cities and communities for many years. This report examines the underlying factors which have influenced policy, leading to the suburbanization of Austin, Texas and cities throughout the United States. Families, individuals and communities have been burdened and challenged by this development trend, which is not well suited for today's social and economic paradigm. A new development paradigm is considered from which ideas are drawn for recommending revisions to Austin's Land Development Code.
