FAQs

  1. How do I get started in NoodleBib?
Go to NoodleBib and click on "New User? Create a New Folder." You can then set up your own username and password for NoodleBib.

  2. How do I create a bibliography?
There are three tabs at the top of the screen: My Folder, My Bibliography, and Help.

On the My Folder screen, click Start New List.
    • Step 1: Choose MLA Advanced or APA Advanced
    • Step 2: Give the list a name. This description is just for your reference and will not print out on the final product. Ex: Sources for Paper on Children and Television Violence

You can now begin adding citations. At the top of the screen, use the pulldown menu to select the type of sources you’re citing. NoodleBib will prompt you for information about the source and will format the citation according to MLA or APA rules.

After you create a citation, a link will appear next to the citation: "Parenthetical Reference Help". When you click the link, a popup window shows you how to create a parenthetical reference for this item. Be sure that you do not have a popup-blocker like the Google Toolbar preventing the help screen from coming up.

  3. How do I print out my bibliography?
When you’ve added all your citations, choose “Open in Word” under Options on the left-hand side of the screen. This will allow you to open or save a .rtf document containing the formatted MLA Works Cited list or APA References list that you can print out and attach to the end of your paper. You can also email the .rtf document to yourself or others.

  4. I am having trouble figuring out my source type or what to enter into the fields in NoodleBib.
You have three options for help:
    1. Search the NoodleBib Knowledge Base.
    2. Ask the NoodleBib staff by clicking on the "Have a Question" link in NoodleBib.
    3. Ask a Librarian via chat, email, telephone or in person.

  5. I want to access NoodleBib from off-campus. What do I do?
Access NoodleBib from the UT Libraries page.
    • Go to NoodleBib
    • Enter your EID and password. This lets us know you are affiliated with UT.
    • You will be directed to the NoodleBib login page. Log in with the NoodleBib username and password you created for yourself.
If you go directly to www.noodletools.com, you won't be recognized as a UT-Austin student and won't be prompted for your EID.

  6. I used NoodleBib version 5 and now version 6 is out. What do I do?
    • Go to NoodleBib
    • Enter the login you set up for version 5 at the top of the page.
    • Scroll down and set up a username and password for version 6.
All of the citations you had stored in version 5 will automatically appear in version 6.

  7. I forgot my username and password. What do I do?
Email lib-instruction@utlists.utexas.edu and include the last four digits of the telephone number you had when you first created a NoodleBib account. A librarian will look up your username/password and email you back.
