CIRCULATION / BORROWER INFORMATION

Loan periods: (all UT Austin books, including Marine Science Library)

* Faculty / Staff - semester
* Graduate students / Post Docs - semester
* Undergraduate students - summer session

Fill out checkout card found in the book pocket, place in box on circulation counter.

Renewals:

Majority of books may be renewed, but not all. Items from other libraries (non-UT) may have certain policies on renewals.

All renewal requests should be made at least one week prior to the due date.

Recalls:

Books that are recalled need to be returned to the library immediately. Fines can accrue for failure to return them promptly. If you plan to be away from the lab for an extended period of time, it is strongly urged that you return your books. The other option is to make arrangements with the library staff for accessing any books that are checked out.

Other information:

1. Current issues, bound journals, some serials, and rare books are to be used in the library only. Ask library staff for items locked in glass cases.

2. All reference materials are non-circulating (short-term loans are possible - please ask staff for assistance).

3. Reserve materials are used in the library only. Please record information in the ledger on the Circulation Desk.

4. New books received in the library remain on the new bookshelf for 2 weeks, after which checkout is possible. Holds may be requested; please ask library staff for assistance.

5. Borrowers are responsible for ALL checked out materials until they are returned to the library. Book return slot is located at the circulation counter.

6. Please DO NOT reshelve anything (for statistics recording purposes). Instead, leave materials on tables or place them on the book trucks for reshelving.

7. Return library materials prior to graduation or termination of employment.

8. Replacement costs may be assessed for damaged or lost library materials.

DOCUMENT DELIVERY / INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES

Services for UTMSI Faculty, Students and Staff Only

Borrowing from UT Austin and other libraries

Interlibrary Loan Services at UT Libraries in Austin will obtain books, articles, and other materials not owned by the Marine Science Library. It is available to UT faculty, students and staff with a valid UTEID.

1. Before making any requests, verify material(s) by using the online catalog, Library Catalog, or the Electronic Journals page.

2. Submit the ILS Request Form (UT EID required) to request materials. You must register 1st on this form.

Requested books will arrive UPS to the address you use on the ILS registration profile.

Austin sends a pre-paid mailer with each item they ship. The mailer is addressed to the ILS office and ILS pays all return postage via the Post Office. If the item weighs less and one pound, the user can drop the sealed return in a mailbox. If the returnable weighs more than one pound, you'll need to take the material to a Post Office and the correct postage amount is accessed to UT.

Interlibrary loan requests or document delivery can take anywhere from 2-5 days, depending on factors such as availability, location of institution, mail system, and ARIEL or FAX transmission. There is no guarantee that ALL materials will be received within a specified time period. PLEASE SUBMIT REQUESTS WELL IN ADVANCE OF ANY DEADLINES! Due dates vary with EACH lending library; patrons are responsible for returning materials when asked.

Reminder: Other libraries may charge a fee for interlibrary loan services, and fees for copyright may also be charged.
