Disaster Preparedness and Recovery
Hurricane Bonnie at Duke Marine Lab - Shared Experiences and Resources

On August 26, 1998, the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, Marine Laboratory sustained damages from a waterspout, generated from Hurricane Bonnie. One dorm was completely demolished and the flying debris from that, destroyed two large plate glass windows of the library, causing extensive water damage and loss to some of its collections. Damages to other buildings and property were also involved. With the hard work and commitment of the staff and students, major efforts were made in cleaning the library and auditorium following the devastation of the hurricane.

Dealing with natural disasters is an uncommon occurrence and much has been learned in getting the library back in order. This particular web page was created to share some of the experiences and add resources in dealing with disaster preparedness and recovery. Hopefully, more information will be added on a continual basis.
