(Frequently Asked Questions)

I found the journal article I need, but the journal is only available in print at UT-Austin. My distance class is at UTEP, and obviously it is too far for me to drive to Austin. What should I do?

Great! I've requested a couple of articles from D-Doc, but I do have one that I need right away. According to the UT Library Catalog, the journal is available at the Life Science Library. Can anyone help me?

How can I obtain books that I need from UT Austin?

What is a TexShare card and how do I get one?

The D-Doc (Distance Learning Library Service) is provided through Inter Library Services (LIS). Go to their D-Doc page and choose "ILS Login." Enter your UT EID and password, and then at the Main Menu, choose "Change User Information." At the bottom of the "Personal Information" page, change "Location Status" to "Distance Learner." Choose "Submit" and the choose "Request an Article."

For more information about D-Doc, view their FAQ page.

Contact Nancy Elder at the Life Science Library for immediate assistance. It may be possible for us to FAX the article to you. If Nancy is not available, ask for the Reference Assistant. See contact information.

What is a TexShare card and how do I get one?

The TexShare Library Card Program provides free reciprocal borrowing privileges to students, faculty, and staff of Texas colleges and universities, and to patrons of participating public libraries. The intent of the program is to promote and facilitate direct access to information among the TexShare Library communities.

All UT Austin students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate in the TexShare program. TexShare cards to be presented at the library the borrower wishes to visit are issued at the Courtesy Borrower Desk in PCL 2.122 during Courtesy Borrower service hours.
