Child Welfare Information Gateway

Child Welfare Information Gateway
Access the Database

1965 - present. (Children's Bureau) freely available to all users
Updated regularly. Provides access to resources including electronic publications, websites, databases and more covering topics related to child safety, welfare and adoption. Supports professionals working in child abuse prevention and in family support, foster care, and other interrelated fields with information and resources across the full spectrum of child welfare topics to help protect children and strengthen families. Developed through the cooperation of the NCCANCH and the NAIC.

The National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information (NCCANCH) was established in 1974 by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act to collect, organize, and disseminate information on all aspects of child maltreatment.

The National Adoption Information Clearinghouse (NAIC) was established by Congress in 1987 to provide free information on all aspects of adoption. The NAIC website provides comprehensive information on domestic and intercountry adoption.

Prior to the creation of Child Welfare Information Gateway, each Clearinghouse represented different aspects of the child welfare system, with some overlap. By consolidating and expanding upon the two Clearinghouses to create Child Welfare Information Gateway, the Children's Bureau is now able to better serve its mission.
