Congressional Hearings (1824 through 2003)
Published hearings are the official record of committee hearings proceedings. Hearings, which are usually open to the public, are held to enable committees to gather opinions and information to help Members make decisions regarding proposed legislation or to help them fulfill their oversight and investigation responsibilities.
Congressional Committee Prints (2004 to present)
Congressional committee prints are publications issued by congressional committees on topics related to their legislative or research activities. The subjects of the committee prints vary greatly, due to the different concerns and actions of each individual committee.
Congressional Record (1789 to present)
Includes the Congressional Record and its three predecessors: the Annals of Congress (1789-1824), the Register of Debates (1824-1837), and the Congressional Globe (1833-1873). These publications serve as the official record of the proceedings and debates of the United States Congress. It is published daily when Congress is in session.
Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports (2004 to present)
The CRS is a the public policy research arm of the United States Congress. As a legislative branch agency within the Library of Congress, CRS works exclusively and directly for Members of Congress, their Committees and staff on a confidential, nonpartisan basis.
Unpublished Hearings (1824 to latest available)
Senate unpublished hearings can be released after 20 years and House unpublished hearings can be released after 30 years, but all hearings can be held 50 years or more for national security or privacy reasons.
