  2. Bahrain Center for Human Rights

    In English. Formed in 2002, the BCHR promotes freedoms and basic rights (civil, political and economic), combating racial discrimination, the dissemination of human rights culture, and contributing in providing support and protection for victims and the vulnerable in Bahrain. Its activities include advocacy, training, workshops, seminars, media campaigns, reporting to UN mechanisms and international NGOs and participating in international conferences and workshops. The government attempted to close the organization in 2004, but BCHR remains open after receiving both internal and external support. BCHR president Abd al-Hadi Khawaja arrested in early 2007; VP Nabeel Rajab summoned for questioning regarding violating a gag order on a report of rigged elections in November 2006.     In French, Arabic, English, Spanish. CNLT addresses issues of political freedom and civil liberties in Tunisia. Their site contains newsletters, reports, and the organization's founding documents.

    In English and Persian. Website with news articles on Emad Baghi, an Iranian journalist, who was arrested and imprisoned in 2007 for documenting and publicizing human rights violations. Site run by Mr. Baghi's friends and family. Contains articles on his condition.

    In English, Armenian, Russian. Organization focuses on human rights in Armenia, especially soldiers' and voters' rights, legal rights, and religious freedom. Contains news, reports, surveys, and photographs. Armenian government has been harassing NGOs dealing with democracy in Armenia since last election. Leader of group was shot by member of Armenian parliament, who later boasted about the incident on television without reprisal.

  6. Human Rights Center "Viasna" [Belarus]

    In Belarussian, Russian, and English. Formed in 1996, Human Rights Center "Viasna" is a non-governmental organization that promotes general human rights in Belarus. Its main areas of focus are free elections, legal rights, and media freedom. Belarusian president has been systematically dismantling all human rights NGOs in Belarus. Group's registration cancelled groundlessly before 2001 election. Site contains news archive searchable by date and topic, reports, and downloads of articles.

    In Azerbaijani and English. Formed as a non-governmental organization in 2006, the IRFS has been monitoring all violence against journalists and violations of journalists’ rights in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has the 5th highest number of wrongfully imprisoned journalists in the world, behind China, Eritrea, Iran and Cuba. Staff members subject to random beatings, surveillance, and arbitrary detention with impunity. Contains photographs, videos, list of journalists, freedom of information requests, news, and reports for download. Users can also upload their own content.

Seeks to expand coverage circle to include Mauritania, Somalia and Iran. Based in Cairo, Egypt. Contains press releases, articles, and news items.
