Association for the Defence of Human Rights in Romania - the Helsinki Committee
In Romanian and English. Formed in 1990, APADOR-CH is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that raises the level of awareness on and respect of human rights and rule of law. Site contains mission, objectives and the team of the association, annual reports, special reports (regarding the visits to prisons and lock-ups, as well as abuses of the police), press releases and publications of APADOR-CH. Bahrain Center for Human Rights
In English. Formed in 2002, the BCHR promotes freedoms and basic rights (civil, political and economic), combating racial discrimination, the dissemination of human rights culture, and contributing in providing support and protection for victims and the vulnerable in Bahrain. Its activities include advocacy, training, workshops, seminars, media campaigns, reporting to UN mechanisms and international NGOs and participating in international conferences and workshops. The government attempted to close the organization in 2004, but BCHR remains open after receiving both internal and external support. BCHR president Abd al-Hadi Khawaja arrested in early 2007; VP Nabeel Rajab summoned for questioning regarding violating a gag order on a report of rigged elections in November 2006. Free Burma Rangers

Formed in 1997, the FBR aims to bring help, hope and love to people of all faiths and ethnicities in the war zones of Burma, to shine a light on the actions of the dictators' army, to stand with the oppressed, and to support leaders and organizations committed to liberty, justice and service. They conduct relief, advocacy, leadership development and unity missions among the people of Burma. FBR coordinates their activities with all relevant organizations and conducts missions in areas where their presence is requested. They operate with the pro-democracy authorities in their operational areas. The teams trained and resourced, belong to the relevant pro-democracy organizations and areas in which the teams serve. Contains news, reports, surveys, and photographs. Armenian government has been harassing NGOs dealing with democracy in Armenia since last election. Leader of group was shot by member of Armenian parliament, who later boasted about the incident on television without reprisal.
Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies [Egypt]
In English and Arabic. Contains project information, press releases, PDFs of publications, and a database of its library related to democracy and civil rights in Egypt and the Middle East. The Center is a non-governmental organization and its main objectives are the advancement of applied social sciences with special emphasis on Egypt and the Arab World. It is committed to the promotion of responsible dialogue, democracy, peace and development for all peoples in the region. The Egyptian government closed the center in 2000. Its founder, Saad Eddine Ibrahim, and 27 other members of staff were tried and imprisoned on trumped-up charges in 2002. The center re-opened in 2003 but founder remains abroad for fear of imprisonment upon return to Egypt.
