  1. Otros Mundos Chiapas

    In Spanish. The website of Other Worlds, a non governmental organization that seeks to present alternatives to current economic and environmental policies. There is a focus on sustainability and local action. Website contains articles,videos and pdfs.

  2. Procuradaria de Derechos Humanos / Human Rights Ombudsman [Guatemala]

    In Spanish. Contains background information on human rights, ombudsman's functions and areas of work (protection of senior citizens, prisoners, women, workers, handicapped, children and youth, publications, immigrants, indigenous populations, the environment) and news.

  3. Procuraduría General de la Nación: República de Colombia

    In Spanish. Official government website for the ombudsman of Colombia. Contains news, publications, photographs, audio and video materials, and an event calendar. The Procuraduría oversees state employees in their exercise of their public duties. Within the ongoing peace process between the state and paramilitry forces, the Procuraduría is charged with promoting participatory mechanisms for the victims. They are organizing a project that archives the non-judicial materials produced in the course of the prosecution of paramilitary crimes: testimonies, objects, photographs. Organization has limited funding and security concerns associated with what is a highly controversial peace process between the state and the paramilitaries. Links between paramilitary forces and state agents have been publicly denounced, and in certain cases proved in court.

  4. Proyecto Desaparecidos

    In Spanish and English. The Desaparecidos Project is an initiative of a variety of human rights scholars and activists who hope to combat forced disappearances and the impunity that often enables them to continue occurring. The website includes current news on government repression of dissent, memorials to disappeared people, testimony of survivors and resources for attorneys.

  5. Radio Liberada [Honduras]

    In Spanish. Contains news stories, press releases, photos, videos related to the Honduran resistance movement after the 2009 coup d'etat that removed democratically elected president, Manuel Zelaya, from power.

  6. Red National de organismos Civiles de Derechos Humanos [Mexico]

    In Spanish. Website serves as a collaborative meeting space for human rights organizations across Mexico.

  7. Reiniciar: corporación para la defensa y promoción de derechos humanos / Reinitiate: Corporation for the Defense and Promotion of Human Rights [Colombia]

    In Spanish. Contains news articles, audiovisual materials, PDFs of publications, and opportunities for action. Focuses on the genocide of members of the Unión Patriótica, leftist political party whose members were targeted and killed during the 1980s by military and paramilitary forces. Founded in 1993 by surviving members of UP and others who had worked on human rights in the Barrancabermeja area of Colombia, Reiniciar is a non-profit organization based in Bogota, Colombia that provides human rights advocacy training, documents human rights violations nation wide, and provides legal, humanitarian and psychological aid to survivors of human rights abuses.

  8. Sahrawi Association of Human Rights Victims [Western Sahara]

    In Arabic, English, French and Spanish. Formed in 2005, ASVDH conducts human rights work in the Western Sahara under Moroccan occupation. Moroccan authorities refuse to recognize the association and have targeted the Association’s Executive Committee and Coordinating Council, arresting, beating and generally subjecting them to harassment and maltreatment because of their membership in ASVDH. Contains news, photographs, videos, audio clips, and reports.

  9. Survival International: The Movement for Tribal Peoples

    In Spanish, French, English, Italian and Dutch. Offices in Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy and the Netherlands. Formed in 1969, Survival is an international organization supporting tribal peoples worldwide. Site contains news (sorted by tribe and country), videos, blogs, media kits, photographs, downloads of publications, and online store.

  10. Tlachinollan Human Rights Center [Mexico]

    In English and Spanish. Website of the Tlachinollan Human Rights Center which is concerned with promoting and defending human rights for the peoples in Guerrero, Mexico. There is a strong agricultural focus.
