  1. Bahrain Center for Human Rights

    In English. Formed in 2002, the BCHR promotes freedoms and basic rights (civil, political and economic), combating racial discrimination, the dissemination of human rights culture, and contributing in providing support and protection for victims and the vulnerable in Bahrain. Its activities include advocacy, training, workshops, seminars, media campaigns, reporting to UN mechanisms and international NGOs and participating in international conferences and workshops. The government attempted to close the organization in 2004, but BCHR remains open after receiving both internal and external support. BCHR president Abd al-Hadi Khawaja arrested in early 2007; VP Nabeel Rajab summoned for questioning regarding violating a gag order on a report of rigged elections in November 2006.     In English and some Arabic. Banat Akhir Zaman is a grassroots movement that seeks to achieve gender equality in Lebanon by empowering women on the personal, social, political and economic levels. Current organization initiatives include legal reform and research. The website includes general materials on both of these initiatives.

    In English. Formed in 2001, Banglarights is an independent web portal which exposes and challenges discriminations and violations of human rights. Site contains information on human rights issues in Bangladesh and worldwide as well as a photo gallery.

  5. BAOBAB for Women's Human's Rights [Nigeria]

    In English. BAOBAB For Women's Human Rights is a non-profit, non-governmental women's human rights organization, which focuses on women's legal rights issues under the three (3) systems of law - customary, statutory and religious laws in Nigeria. The organization evolved from an ad hoc group of activists, social scientists, lawyers, and specialists in Muslim laws and Arabic who were responsible for executing the Women and Laws Nigeria project, under the auspices of the International Solidarity Network of Women Living Under Muslim Laws from 1993 to 1996. BAOBAB operates from a national office in Lagos and with outreach teams in 14 states across Nigeria. These are: Adamawa, Borno, Edo, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Zamfara. Site contains downloads of publications and news and events archives.

    In English. Behind the Mask is a communication initiative around LGBTI rights and affairs in Africa. The organization considers information and communication technology (ICT) and independent journalistic activism as its main tools. By way of publishing a website magazine the organization gives voice to African LGBTI communities and provides a platform for exchange and debate for LGBTI groups, activists, individuals and allies. The site includes news, op-eds and journalistic pieces on gay rights in Africa, analysis of each African country's situation with regard to gay rights and specific sub-headings around issues of health, sexuality and religion.

  7. Bekhsoos [Middle East]

    In English and some Arabic. Bekhsoos is a queer Arab magazine published weekly by queer and trans folks at Meem. The site covers topics related to (homo)sexuality in the Arab world. Our objective is to fill the gap of lesbian- and transgender-produced writing in the Arab world through articles, reports, investigations, personal stories, opinion pieces, and creative writing. The materials are all written, and they reflect the goals expressed above.

  9. Bulgarian Helsinki Committee

    In Bulgarian and English. Formed in 1992, the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee is a non-governmental organization that aims to promote respect for the human rights of every individual, to stimulate legislative reform to bring Bulgarian legislation in line with international human rights standards, to trigger public debate on human rights issues, to carry out advocacy for the protection of human rights, and to popularise and make widely available human rights instruments. Contains news archive, downloads of newsletters, position papers (Bulgarian only), list of publications, legislative documents and human rights resources.

  10. Burma Issues: Information for Action, Campaign for Peace, Grassroots Education and Organizing

Burma Issues is a project of the Peace Way Foundation, founded in 1990 and acts as a private, a non-profit organisation devoted to a peaceful resolution to Burma's struggle for human rights and democratic rule. Contains videos, reports (PDF), photographs, newsletters (PDF), documentation centre database, and information about the project.
