  1. Bahrain Center for Human Rights

    In English. Formed in 2002, the BCHR promotes freedoms and basic rights (civil, political and economic), combating racial discrimination, the dissemination of human rights culture, and contributing in providing support and protection for victims and the vulnerable in Bahrain. Its activities include advocacy, training, workshops, seminars, media campaigns, reporting to UN mechanisms and international NGOs and participating in international conferences and workshops. The government attempted to close the organization in 2004, but BCHR remains open after receiving both internal and external support. BCHR president Abd al-Hadi Khawaja arrested in early 2007; VP Nabeel Rajab summoned for questioning regarding violating a gag order on a report of rigged elections in November 2006.   3. Behind the Mask [Africa]

    In English. Behind the Mask is a communication initiative around LGBTI rights and affairs in Africa. The organization considers information and communication technology (ICT) and independent journalistic activism as its main tools. By way of publishing a website magazine the organization gives voice to African LGBTI communities and provides a platform for exchange and debate for LGBTI groups, activists, individuals and allies. The site includes news, op-eds and journalistic pieces on gay rights in Africa, analysis of each African country's situation with regard to gay rights and specific sub-headings around issues of health, sexuality and religion.

  4. Bekhsoos [Middle East]

    In English and some Arabic. Bekhsoos is a queer Arab magazine published weekly by queer and trans folks at Meem. The site covers topics related to (homo)sexuality in the Arab world. Our objective is to fill the gap of lesbian- and transgender-produced writing in the Arab world through articles, reports, investigations, personal stories, opinion pieces, and creative writing. The materials are all written, and they reflect the goals expressed above.

  5. Burma Issues: Information for Action, Campaign for Peace, Grassroots Education and Organizing

    In English, Thai, and Karen. Burma Issues is a project of the Peace Way Foundation, founded in 1990 and acts as a private, a non-profit organisation devoted to a peaceful resolution to Burma's struggle for human rights and democratic rule. Contains videos, reports (PDF), photographs, newsletters (PDF), documentation centre database, and information about the project.

  6. Change for Equality [Iran]

    In Farsi and English. The Change for Equality campaign is designed to connect Iranian women activists and strengthen their efforts for legal recognition of gender equality in Iran. The site contains interviews of leading activists, news coverage, support for activists jailed or persecuted in other ways and analysis of important steps in legal reform.

  7. Chinese Human Rights Defenders

    In Chinese and English. CRD is a network of Chinese human rights activists and groups, open to international supporters. Its activities include consultation, dissemination of information, facilitating international exchange, supporting a program of small grants to human rights work in China, research assistance and other services. Site contains news articles on human rights and activists, research, media, and the 2008 Olympics.

  8. Coalición de Derechos Humanos / Human Rights Coalition [Arizona, United States]

    In English and Spanish. Coalición de Derechos Humanos is a grassroots organization which promotes respect for human/civil rights and fights the militarization of the Southern Border region, discrimination, and human rights abuses by federal, state, and local law enforcement officials affecting U.S. and non-U.S. citizens alike. Contains information on organization's projects, press releases and educational materials for download, news and events listing, and videos.

  9. Comisión de Derechos Humanos de El Salvador / Human Rights Commission of El Salvador

    In Spanish. Non-governmental organization that conducts human rights advocacy and education. Focuses on issues of health, poverty, education, justice and migration. Contains documents, news items, and information on how to report human rights violations.

  10. Directorio Democrático Cubano / Cuban Democratic Directorate

    In Spanish and English. Directorio works for democracy in Cuba by way of a civic, nonviolent struggle. Site contains news articles, PDF versions of publications,
