  1. ASFADDES: Asociación de Familiares Detenidos-Desaparecidos en Colombia / Colombian Association of Relatives of the Detained and Disappeared

    In Spanish. Organization which aids and represents the families of people who are detained or missing in Colombia. The directors and members of ASFADDES have been subject to illegal surveillance and death threats from paramilitary groups. They have filed a petition to the Inter American Human Rights Court to require the Colombian state to provide them with minimum safety guarantees. Site contains news articles, background information on organization and its activities, photographs, and educational information on forced disappearances.

  2. Consultoría para los Derechos Humanos y el Desplazamiento / Consultants for Human Rights and Displacement [Colombia]

    In Spanish. Formed in 1992, CODHES is a non-governmental organization that promotes human rights in Colombia, with a special emphasis in assisting those who have been violently displaced by the internal conflict and state violence. Contains bulletins, statistics, reports, list of publications, calendar of events, and links to other resources.

  3. Movimento Nacional de Víctimas de Crímenes de Estado / Movement of Victims of State Crimes [Colombia]

    In Spanish. Umbrella organization for ONGs and people who have been victims of or fight against state terrorism in Colombia. Denounces, promotes education, advocacy. MOVICE director, Ivan Cepeda Castro, has had to live in exhile twice due to death threats associated with his work denouncing state terrorism in Colombia. Criminal charges for libel and diffamation have also been made against him for his work exposing the links between governemnt officials and paramilitary forces. Site contains videos, photos, documents, and newsletters.

  4. Procuraduría General de la Nación: República de Colombia

    In Spanish. Official government website for the ombudsman of Colombia. Contains news, publications, photographs, audio and video materials, and an event calendar. The Procuraduría oversees state employees in their exercise of their public duties. Within the ongoing peace process between the state and paramilitry forces, the Procuraduría is charged with promoting participatory mechanisms for the victims. They are organizing a project that archives the non-judicial materials produced in the course of the prosecution of paramilitary crimes: testimonies, objects, photographs. Organization has limited funding and security concerns associated with what is a highly controversial peace process between the state and the paramilitaries. Links between paramilitary forces and state agents have been publicly denounced, and in certain cases proved in court.

  5. Reiniciar: corporación para la defensa y promoción de derechos humanos / Reinitiate: Corporation for the Defense and Promotion of Human Rights [Colombia]

    In Spanish. Contains news articles, audiovisual materials, PDFs of publications, and opportunities for action. Focuses on the genocide of members of the Unión Patriótica, leftist political party whose members were targeted and killed during the 1980s by military and paramilitary forces. Founded in 1993 by surviving members of UP and others who had worked on human rights in the Barrancabermeja area of Colombia, Reiniciar is a non-profit organization based in Bogota, Colombia that provides human rights advocacy training, documents human rights violations nation wide, and provides legal, humanitarian and psychological aid to survivors of human rights abuses.
