Answers to FAQs

How do I stop a media player taking over all my file types?

The information in the table below shows default file types that should be associated with the specified media player. Unless you would like additional files associated with the media player, you can uncheck and therefore disassociate the remaining files presented. The instructions below help you to retain default filetypes only for each of the three major media players.

QuickTime Player

Quicktime Player Logo

Open the Quicktime Player and choose Edit, Preferences, Quicktime Preferences.

In the QuickTime Settings dialog box, select File Type Associations from the drop-down menu.

Uncheck Notify me if other applications modify these viewer associations and close the window. This will prevent the annoying windows popup asking about file association types for Quicktime.

 Select Macintosh file types

 Uncheck the other two types.
