Scholarly (Academic) Journal See Journal .

Search Request - Any user may request that the library look for an item which is not on the shelf or currently checked out. The requestor is notified of the results of the search. Items from the general collection are held for the requestor for seven days. Items which circulate for library use or other short loan periods are not held, but the requestor is notified that they have been located.  Search requests can be submitted at library circulation desks .

Secondary Source - Sources that are often based on primary sources .  Secondary sources include reviews criticism, editorials, and analysis.  Most journal articles are secondary sources which provide analysis, interpretation, or evaluation.

Serial - Like the term periodical , serial is a general term for works published at a regular interval and  expected to continue indefinitely.  Journals , magazines , and newspapers are often referred to as serials.  See Also : Magazine , Journal .

Stacks - Stacks or stack area refer to the space in a library where the majority of library materials are shelved.  Stacks may cover multiple floors of a library and contain many rows of shelving units.

Style Guides -  Style guides or manuals provide guidelines for how to format the elements of research papers including footnotes and bibliographic citations. A number of style manuals have been published by professional organizations such as the Modern Language Association or the American Psychological Association.  Most style guides now include instructions for citing electronic information such as e-mail, e-journal articles, World Wide Web pages, etc. 

Subject Headings - Words or phrases assigned to books and articles which are used to index these items by topic.  See Also : Thesaurus
