Bibliographer
Bibliographers are librarians who are responsible for the selection and development of information resources for their assigned subjects. Bibliographers work closely with their respective departmental chairs and faculty and are available to confer individually with faculty and students concerning research needs, library instruction, existing library resources, new acquisitions, and other library matters.

Bibliographic Citation:
See Citation.

Bibliography:
A list of reference materials such as books and articles used for research.  Bibliographies refer to a list of references at the end of an article as well as a collection of information resources on a specific topic published together as a book.  See Also: Style Guides

Book Return or Book Drop:
A place to return books borrowed from the library. A book return can be a box located outside the library, near the door of the library, or near the circulation desk.  A drive-up book return is located west of the Perry-Castaneda Library in the one-way alley off 21st Street between the University Christian Church and the University Teaching Center (UTC).   Please note any restrictions posted on library book returns.

Boolean Operator or Boolean Logic:
Boolean operators are used to combine search terms to construct more complex searches in a database.  Using the boolean operators AND, OR and NOT can help expand or narrow a search.

Bound Periodical or Bound Volume:
Created when issues of a periodical title are gathered and covered to form a book-like unit or volume.

Branch Libraries:
Separate library locations that maintain collections of subject-related materials.  Branch libraries at UT Austin include  Architecture and Planning, Chemistry, Classics, Engineering, Fine Arts, Geology, Physics-Mathematics-Astronomy, Life Science, and the library at the University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute at Port Aransas.  See Also: the University of Texas Libraries for a complete listing of branch libraries, special collections and other libraries on the UT campus.

Brief Display:
UTNetCAT search results that include call number, location, and current status (checked out, etc.).  For journals and other periodicals, Brief Display includes: current issues, showing location(s) of current unbound issues received since the latest bound volume.  Summary of older volumes, showing for each location the call number and first and last volume held. There may be gaps in holdings and recent volumes being bound are not shown; select the summary of older volumes link to display exact holdings in reverse chronological order for each call number. (Full Display)
