UT Dissertations, Theses and Reports

There are several ways to search for dissertations by University of Texas at Austin students.

For print and electronic dissertations, theses or reports try the Library Catalog:

  • Go to Advanced Search
  • Enter your search terms in the top portion of the screen
  • Use the Location pull-down menu, scroll up and select Dissertations/Theses
  • Please Note: The deposit of reports in the library has not been a requirement of the University for many years. Therefore, holdings for earlier years, as well as for a number of departments are incomplete. In addition, Undergraduate Honors Theses are received by UT Libraries only on a random basis.

Full-text electronic theses and dissertations:

Contains more than 2 million doctoral dissertations and master's theses. Provides full text for many dissertations and theses, including most done after 1997. All subject areas are covered. The database includes more than 90 percent of the doctoral dissertations accepted each year in North America with selective coverage for other parts of the world. Many dissertations from The University of Texas at Austin are included in the database, though theses from the University are only rarely included.
Hint: To search for UT dissertations: select School name/code from the drop down menu then click on the link Look up schools.

WorldCat includes over 38 million records for books, periodicals, magazines, and any other type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. Hint: Go to Subtype limits > Any Content drop down menu > Select Thesis/dissertation.

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations

NDLTD is a federation of member universities and consortia dedicated to improving graduate education and the sharing of knowledge, helping universities build their information infrastructure, and extending the value of digital libraries.

WorldCat includes over 38 million records for books, periodicals, magazines, and any other type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. The database includes records for material as early as the 11th century.

DART-Europe E-theses Portal

DART-Europe is a partnership of research libraries and library consortia who are working together to improve global access to European research theses. DART-Europe is endorsed by LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche), and it is the European Working Group of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD).

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations

NDLTD is a federation of member universities and consortia dedicated to improving graduate education and the sharing of knowledge, helping universities build their information infrastructure, and extending the value of digital libraries.

Australasian Digital Theses (ADT) Program

The aim of the ADT program is to establish a distributed database of digital versions of theses produced by the postgraduate research students at Australian universities. The theses will be available worldwide via the web. The ideal behind the program is to provide access to, and promote Australian research to the international community.

Theses Canada Portal

Launched by National Library of Canada. A web site that provides free access to thousands of full text electronic Canadian theses. Searching of over 220,000 Canadian theses held by the Library and Archives Canada is also available.
