Gems are precious or semi-precious stones, crystals or other substances whose color and sparkle can be enhanced by special cutting. Gemology is the science of gems. This guide is prepared for the assistance of students in GEO 347k, Gem and Gem Minerals, and refers (with the exception of internet links) to materials available in the Walter Geology Library, The University of Texas at Austin.
