The primary research collections of the Walter Geology Library presently include more than 120,000 book and journal volumes and 47,000 geologic maps, among them the publications of the U.S. Geological Survey, most state geological surveys, and those of many foreign countries. Regional emphasis of the collection is on the Southwestern United States, Texas, and Mexico. Subject emphases are sedimentology, stratigraphy, tectonics, structural, economic, marine, and petroleum geology, petrology, paleontology, mineralogy, geochemistry, geophysics, and groundwater hydrology. In addition to state funding, the Walter Library benefits from several endowment funds maintained by the Geology Foundation in the Department of Geological Sciences.
The library is on the 4th floor of the Jackson Geosciences Building on the UT Austin main campus.
