Loan Periods and Policies

To check out materials, borrowers must have a valid UT ID card or courtesy borrowers card. Borrowers who are unclear about loan periods should ask a Circulation Desk supervisor for clarification. Please check item due date slips for the return dates and/or times.

Please Note:

  1. Items marked 2 Hours (provided they are not also marked Library Use Only), may be checked out for Overnight use 2 hours before the FAL closes. These items are due back 1 Hour after the FAL next opens.
  2. Library Use Only items are checked out from the Circulation Desk for use in the FAL. Unless marked for 2 Hour use, the item must be returned to the Circulation Desk 30 minutes before the FAL closes.
  3. Items with short loan periods have high fines if kept past the due date/time.
  4. In some cases, LP records are shelved in another building and will need to be retrieved.. Some microfiche/film, recital tapes, and Special Collection items will also need to be retrieved by staff. Borrowers may have to wait to access these materials.
  5. Items that circulate for less than 14 days cannot be recalled or renewed online. Borrowers can place holds on charged items that are not on reserve.
  6. For an item to be discharged the entire item must be returned. This means all parts (e.g. discs, notes, pamphlets, cases, outer box, etc.) must be accounted for.
