  • Bibliography of the History of Art (1973 - present)
    Updated quarterly. Covers European and American art from late antiquity to the present. Indexes and abstracts art-related books, conference proceedings and dissertations, exhibition and dealer's catalogs, and articles from more than 2,500 periodicals.
  • Design and Applied Arts Index (1973 - present)
    Updated regularly. International index to design and craft journals with over 110,000 annotated references from more than 450 design and craft journals. Also has data on over 50,000 designers, craftspeople, studios, workshops and design firms.
  • Index to 19th-Century American Art Periodicals (19th century)
    Indexes 42 art journals published in the U.S. during the 19th century.
  • SCIPIO (1599 - present)
    Updated daily. Consists of records for auction sales catalogs from all major North American and European auction houses as well as important private sales.

  • Art History Research Centre Facilitating art historical and other arts research on the Internet; provides access to search engines, mailing lists, newsgroups, library catalogs, art collections, and other art-related web sites.
  • ArtNet This site claims to be the portal for the world of art. Information about galleries, artists, auctions, printstore, bookstore, and a magazine are just some of the features.
  • ArtsEdNet Online service supporting arts education from the Getty Education Institute for the Arts.
  • ARTSEDGE National Arts and Education Information Network. The mission of ArtsEdge is to help artists, teachers, and students gain access to and share information, resources, and ideas that support the arts.
  • Getty Research Institute for the Arts and Humanities Includes information about The J. Paul Getty Trust, The Getty Research Institute, projects and publications.
  • Voice of the Shuttle Focuses on humanities research, including art, art history, photography, classical studies, architecture and many other art-related disciplines.

Art Dictionaries and Encyclopedias:

  • Art:21 Glossary Glossary for art-related words used by series artists in the clips and transcripts. Artist biographies are available by clicking on the names of the artists.
  • ArtLex - Dictionary of Visual Art A Dictionary of Visual Art. You will find definitions for more than 2,600 terms here, along with numerous illustrations, pronunciation notes, great quotations, and links to other resources on the Web.
  • Grove Art Online An enhanced electronic version of the print Grove Dictionary of Art providing the most comprehensive and up-to-date resource on art. Includes updates to the existing 41,000 articles of the print edition as well as over 15,000 links to the web sites of museums and galleries around the world with more than 100,000 color images.
  • Words of Art An online glossary of theory and criticism for the visual arts.
