On October 15th & 16th, 2010, UT's Department of Theatre and Dance organized a celebration of "The Fantasticks: 50th Anniversary". Featuring materials on loan from the Harry Ransom Center, the FAL hosted the event that paid tribute to the world's longest running musical and to the two UT Drama Department alumni responsible for it's creation, lyricist Tom Jones and composer Harvey Schmidt.

The original production of "The Fantasticks" opened on May 3, 1960 at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in NYC's Greenwich Village. A revival production of the Fantasticks opened on August 23, 2006 off-Broadway at the Snapple Street Theatre in NYC. A cast recording of this production was released on Ghostlight Records. "The Fantasticks" has been performed in 67 countries.
