Digital Collections of National Libraries
Are you working on a research topic of national cultural interest or relevance? You might try any number of national libraries to browse the rare and unique items that they have digitized and made accessible to the public online. A few of our favorites include the Biblioteca Digital Hispanica of the Biblioteca Nacional de Espana and Gallica of the Bibliotheque National de France for sound recordings, scores, and manuscripts. Another favorite is the Library of Congress's National Jukebox for acoustical era (1925 and before) recordings of the RCA Victor label.
For your listening pleasure, a short curated list of the music librarian's favorites:
- Conchita Supervía singing songs by Joaquín Turina (Biblioteca Digital Hispanica)
- French Renaissance vocal music of Josquin des Prés, Clément Janequin and others, performed by the Ensemble Nadia Boulanger (Gallica)
- Operatic excerpts by Jean-Philippe Rameau, performed by the Ensemble Nadia Boulanger (Gallica)
- Everybody's jazzin' it, performed by Collins and Harlan (National Jukebox)
