One of many "darned yellow composites" (small yellow-flowered sunflower relatives, or DYCs), the huisache daisy sometimes forms huge springtime colonies on sandy soils in much of Texas, from thornscrub on the South Texas Plains to shortgrass prairies of the Panhandle.
