Wildflowers of Texas, Plant Resources Center, University of Texas at Austin

Goodenia (Naupaka) family — Goodeniaceae

Also known as:
Inkberry, Beachberry

This odd-flowered, fleshy shrub is so rare in Texas that most botanists have never seen it here. At one time there was a fairly large but very local patch on a barrier island of the Gulf, but Hurricane Carla in 1961 obliterated it, and now it is extremely rare. It is more common on beaches elsewhere in tropical America, luckily!

Flowering Months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
