The Texas lantana is so popular as a cultivated plant that many people don't know that it is a good Texas native. The striking yellow and orange-red groups of flowers, the numerous butterflies that they attract, and the drought-resistance of this little shrub are factors in this popularity. Outside of cultivation, it occurs throughout much of Texas in diverse dryish habitats, especially on sandier soils.
