Ranging from South Texas through the center of the state to the Panhandle, lace cactus is the most common little barrel cactus of the Edwards Plateau. The late spring flowers vary from a fleshy pink to deep rose. It often startles even those who know it well to see such a small cactus (usually only 3-8 inches tall) produce a flower that seems larger than the plant.
