There are over 20 species of hawthorns in Texas, all of them shrubs or small trees that are often armed with thorns and that have white flowers in the spring. Most are found in the eastern half of the state or on the Edwards Plateau. They can be extremely difficult to differentiate, but this common one is relatively easy to identify by its parsley-like leaves.
