Amelia's sand vervain is found only in a few areas of deep loose sand in South Texas. Both the common name and the scientific name honor Amelia Lundell, the wife of Cyrus Lundell, founder of the Lundell Herbarium which now forms part of the U.T. Plant Resources Center. This spring and summer bloomer is found in the wild nowhere else in the world and is thus said to be "endemic" to South Texas.
