Introduction

In this tutorial, the goal is to find biomedical engineering information. The tutorial covers:

• searching for books on a topic
• searching for journal articles and conference papers
• finding reliable sources of information on the Internet

In this investigation, we will use the services and resources of the University of Texas Libraries web site; we will look at government agencies and professional associations as possible sources of information; and also consider the benefits and risks of searching the Internet for information to support academic research.

Please remember that researching biomedical engineering topics can be challenging. There is no medical school/library at the University of Texas at Austin and this means:

• there is limited access to clinical journals
• there is no one place to go to find information
• you will need to use Interlibrary Loan to gain access to materials not owned here
