Finding Books Books in the UT Austin Libraries or available through full-text online sources such as netLibrary can be located using UTNetCAT. Author, Subject, Title and Keyword searching can be used to find books in our library system. Remember it takes time to write and publish a book. Research results often appear first in conference papers and journal articles. The following is an example of a UTNetCAT mixed keyword search for the terms "civilized" and "engineer". You can see that UTNetCAT provides title, author, and publication information about the books we found with this search. Call number and library location information is included for each item and you will need this information to find the books on the shelves in the library locations around campus.
If you can't find the item you are looking for in UTNetCAT, please don't hesitate to ask a reference librarian* for help. *Information Excavator Extra What does a reference librarian do? Reference librarians in the UT Austin libraries can help you find information. At the Engineering Library, we answer general and in-depth questions using library resources and collections or we can refer you to reference librarians and collections in other libraries around campus. We can also refer you to resources available outside UT Austin. We can help you select and search appropriate literature and information databases or reference tools. We can help you search UTNetCAT and show you how to use library services available to students. You can make an appointment to meet with a reference librarian, you can stop by the library and ask for help, you can call 495-4511, our reference phone number, or you can send us an e-mail (englib@lib.utexas.edu) with your questions.
