Intellectual Property Task Force

Charge

The Intellectual Property Task Force will develop guidelines and procedures for management of copyright and intellectual property issues pertaining to materials available through the Knowledge Gateway.

Goals

1. Establish intellectual property directory on Knowledge Gateway site.
2. Propose solutions to Knowledge Gateway "branding" issues.
  a. UTopia branding (including sample files)
3. Assist with creation and use of any necessary site statements and clearance/release statements. These would be any statements that appear on web pages regarding copyright and/or usage.
a. Proposed Knowledge Gateway Materials Usage Statement

b. Copyright permission form (outside request to use KG materials)

Web form that will email requests to appropriate contact person(s)

 

c. Copyright clearance form (for KG providers to obtain permission)

Have copyright holders print, fill out, and return. To be kept on file for duration of online use of materials

 

4. Get current list of rights-related fields in Knowledge Gateway metadata guidelines.

a. Rights

Fair use rights
Perpetual access rights
Archival rights
Distance education rights

b. Usage

Display use
Digital copy use
Print copy use
Interlibrary loan print/electronic use
Library reserves print/electronic use
Coursepack print/electronic use

c. Intellectual Property

Intellectual property warranty (creator warrants that content does not infringe)
Authorized user definition (creator says who can look at their content, should there be separate fields for students, faculty, staff, researchers, members of the governing board, walk-ins?)
Authentication method (i.e., access controlled by IP address, username/password for authorized users)

d. Acknowledgements

Use of UT wordmark and Knowledge Gateway brand
ADA compliance (should we ask the creator to certify ADA compliance?)

5. Assist with the creation of a rights management system that will exist within the Knowledge Gateway metadata management system.
