Interaction with System
Digital Library Services is currently transforming their information system architecture to accommodate an OAIS compliant repository that will provide reliable and trustworthy storage for the University of Texas's digital assets. The previous UT General Libraries digital information system was a decentralized network of numerous small file servers; each with a separate function. The acquisition of two high capacity file servers has facilitated the mergence of the General Libraries' digital assets onto a limited number of servers. The result has been improved access to General Libraries’ electronic resources.
DLSD has made huge strides in developing its IT architecture and the process continues as we acquire further server space for storage of digital assets and better server and database software. A general diagram of the IT system is provided here.

General Libraries' digital information system incorporates duality to protect against unauthorized access. A fiber optic gigabyte network and a copper 100 megabyte network provide backup if one system should fail. Further documentation of the system will be provided at a later date.
