Hazardous Materials and Safety

Guide to Reference Sources

This bibliography is intended as a basic guide to important resources in this subject area. All titles listed are shelved in the Chemistry Library's reference section unless otherwise noted.

MATERIALS SAFETY DATA SHEETS

An MSDS is provided by the manufacturer of a chemical product. The quality, completeness, and reliability of MSDS vary widely and it may be necessary to consult several to find desired information.

The library does not maintain collections of printed Materials Safety Data Sheets. Access to many forms of MSDS is available through various Web sites. For starting points, see:

Other Regulatory Information

The Engineering and Life Science Libraries are other locations of regulatory information. Industrial standards from organizations like ANSI, ASTM, and NFPA are held in the Engineering Library. Government agencies like NIOSH, OSHA, and the EPA also publish many regulations, often in the Code of Federal Regulations. Usually these documents can be found in the PCL Documents Collection, PCL Reference, the Public Affairs Library, or the Law Library, or on the Web. Ask a librarian for help in tracking down these types of publications.
