1. Anderson studied under Leuchs at Berlin, but due to financial and wartime difficulties finished his PhD under Graham Lusk at Cornell, based largely on work done under Leuchs and at the New York Agricultural Experiment Station. Lusk's mentor was Carl von Voit (MD, Munich, 1854), who in turn had studied under Max J. von Pettenkofer (Munich, 1843) and Liebig. (cf Mainz.)
